Bonnet Springs Park

Lake Crago Outdoor Recreation Complex

Located in the north end of Lakeland, Florida, the Lake Crago Outdoor Recreation Complex is the city’s first aquatic theme park. The facility is a $7 million dollar construction project designed to make the city’s outdoors more accessible to residents. The complex includes a multi-use building, a large dock and walkways.

Among the amenities offered is a full size dog park. The complex is being built on land the city traded with Tenoroc state lands, totaling over 8,000 acres. The park is currently being expanded and will be open to the public by early October.

The city is also currently hiring fitness instructors. The largest section of the complex boasts a floor-to-ceiling view of the lake. A half-day kayak rental is $40. Art and science day camps

Whether your child is interested in the arts or science, Lakeland Parks and Recreation has something for them. There are camps geared towards children ages 3.5 – 12 years old, as well as half-day and full-day options. These programs are offered during the summer.

Camp activities include swimming, arts and crafts, sports, and field trips. Throughout the week, each child will be given weekly themes in art, science, and technology. Throughout the camp, they will work on a take home project.

MOSI’s Summer Science Camp combines science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Children will explore science, technology, and art during a fun-filled week. During the week, the children will learn about a variety of topics, including medical, marine biology, and culinary.

DFAC’s Summer Art Academy offers seven different age-appropriate camps. Children will have a chance to work on sculpture, digital art, photography, and clay. This camp also incorporates arts in motion curriculum.

Family-friendly events

Throughout the summer, the City of Lakeland Parks and Recreation Department hosts a variety of family-friendly events. From art and science day camps to live music and food vendors, there is something to please everyone. The department also sponsors a Children’s Fishing Rodeo and a Children’s Fishing Rodeo Tournament.

The Lakeland Parks and Recreation Department is always looking for new partnerships to help provide quality recreational programming to residents. Future plans include a permanent restroom facility and additional parking. The events stage is also part of the department’s expansion plans.
